Don’t have time for the gym? No problem! You can get moving right in your kitchen or living room while you finish your to-do list.
Here are a few easy ways to sneak in some exercise while doing housework:
1. The Kitchen Counter Stretch
While you wait for the microwave to beep or the water to boil:
- Counter Plank: Lean your hands on the counter, step back, and hold your body straight. It’s great for your arms and belly.
- Calf Raises: Stand tall and go up on your tiptoes, then back down. Do this while you’re stirring a pot or washing a dish.
2. The Laundry Move
Laundry can be a real workout if you do it right:
- Basket Squats: Before you carry the basket, hold it at your chest and do 5 slow squats. Keep your back straight!
- Tree Pose: While you fold socks or towels, try standing on just one leg. It helps your balance and makes the time go faster.
3. Cleaning Power
- Vacuum Lunges: Every time you push the vacuum forward, take a big step and bend your knee. Switch legs as you go.
- High Reaches: When dusting high shelves, reach as high as you can and stretch your whole side.
Why do this?
Even 1 or 2 minutes of moving makes a big difference. It helps you feel less stiff, gives you more energy, and burns a little extra calories without needing a gym membership.
The goal is simple: If you’re standing around waiting, just start moving!
