How practice is improving my performance

Yoga and practice

“Practice, practice, practice and everything else is coming”

Shri K.Pattabhi Jois

Everyone is aware of the reason to practice and how it can change a person. I have noticed the flexibility in my movements, the stability in certain position after my daily practice. Though I am still far from any perfect yogi, I have now faith in my practice.

I have weak shoulder strength. Once in an Asthanga class I tried a very simple pushup while transitioning from one position to other. I was impressed by how people were doing it flawlessly. It left me with a very bad shoulder pain and later it turned out that I was unable to move my hand for 3 days. I missed the classes and when I told my teacher about it, he emphasized on more practice. Though it never came during that time. I never tried it fearing the same issue with shoulder.

Now after 3 years, when I again decided to do pushups, I failed miserably. Even the first lift was too much for my weak shoulders. I shunned the idea of doing push ups again.

Now since I have again started practicing Asthanga. I encounter the plank position in the Surya Namaskar. Though I was earlier, trying it in a very simple way. I decided to do again . This time, it was hard. My shoulders ached a little. I kept trying and one day I noticed I was able to hold the pushup-plank position. I even tried few pushups and to my surprise I was able to do it.

This is the magic of yoga. Slowly your body is gathering some strength and stability. You are doing something which seems impossible to you in the past. Hope the magic continues.
