Why Mom should practice Yoga?
Being a mom is a 24*7 job in itself and trying to be a perfect mother (a notion in every mother’s head) is another high tension job. To provide a child quality care means, responding to their needs consistently, being available for communication, and providing them a happy and relaxed environment.
When the goals set for a mother are so high (of course, set by mom herself sometimes under the pressure of other moms/family/social networking sites/her own expectations), things tend to get stressful.
What is the result of stress? More pressure, irritation, unhappy self and hence unhappy family. Many a times it becomes such a viscous cycle that can only be broken with great self control and discipline.
Before taking the stride towards the self control and discipline thing, one has to understand that all these things need relax mind and great health (mental and physical). You may miss the bigger picture of motherhood if you just wish somehow the day to be over.
Here why I believe that every Mom should practice Yoga
-
Saves commute time, needs no equipment
Well, if you have already done Yoga before, you can eliminate the pain of searching the near by gyms or studios. You are also not dependent on any equipment. All you need is a good Yoga mat. You can do it with your own convenience and ease.

Saves you from the stress and tension
Yoga is a mind-body practice. It is not just a physical asana or the exercise. It combines the physical poses, controlled breathing, and meditation.Parenting can be really stressful at times. If you try to remain cool, calm through out the day, you are almost there.
Yoga helps you to find a balance. While you practice Yoga, focus on your breath and do deep breathing. This focus will help you to stop thinking about other things (again a type of meditation). Our body is designed to release 70% of the toxic waste through breathing. If your breathing is shallow, you are not getting rid of those toxic things. With deep breathing while doing any asana, you are not only eliminating the toxins but also learning a way to control your breath.
Also, remember when you are under any stress, tension or anger, your body constricts. Your muscles get tight and your breathing becomes shallow. By deep breathing you remove the tension from the body.
Apart from the breath, Yoga poses target the areas of the body where you hold stress like shoulders, neck.Hence every mom should practice Yoga in-order to release the stress.

Best “Me time”
We all need “me time”. Imagine getting some “Me time” and not utilizing it in a wise ways. The not so good ways can be spending on social networking sites browsing through the pictures of people you don’t care about, watching a television series you don’t enjoy. For moms, time is a luxury, spend the “Me time” in such a way, that it leaves you energetic and happy.
Some quick Yoga asanas or some Surya Namaskar(Sun Salutation) are the best ways to energize yourself and de-stress from your busy life. It is an excellent way to spend the “Me time”

Brings Clarity in your thoughts
With the practice like Meditation, you improve your observation, perception and expression. Meditation makes you centered and leaves no place for negative emotions like anger, hurt, fear. Practising Meditation brings clarity to your thoughts, improves your reaction on any situation and hence helps you to turn into a great parent and awesome human being.

Makes your skin shine
Practicing certain Pranayams can do wonder to your skins. Also, yoga improves the digestive system which in turn controls majority of your skin problems. There are many asana to tighten the face muscles which makes your skin wrinkle free.

Makes you less competitive and helps you enjoy every moment
Today social networking sites put much pressure on a parent. Pinterest kids perfect birthday parties, family perfect holiday destination increase your own expectation. In today’s world when everyone is asking you to fly high above your expectation and budget, yoga keeps you grounded.
During an interview Dalai Lama was asked what surprised him about humanity the most and his response was:
“Man surprised me most about humanity. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money.
Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”
So, all you lovely mommies out there. I request you to slow down, to breathe and relax and cherish every moment of motherhood.
“Do not burn yourself out. It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it is still there.”

Thanks Sapana. Yes, healthy and happy minds are most important.
Nicely written. I have seen yoga poses in nature ie. in wild animals in tigers, leopards, langurs, vultures etc. It is just compiling learnings from nature.
