With Winters around the corner, let’s make sure that we are healthy and agile to enjoy it. Getting a flu,  sore throat, cold is something that nobody loves. So, why not follow simple steps and enjoy this winter.

  1. Follow the wise old adage “Precaution is better than care : Be proactive and take care of your family and yourself, before the illness strikes you. Maintain a healthy diet, eat a lot of fruits especially citrus which are the seasonal fruits of winter seasons.

    Eat vegetables and fruits which are high in oxidants such as blue, red berries, dark green leafy vegetables, nuts, sweet potatoes. Increase your intake of green tea.

  2. Get more sleep : I know you pride yourself of an early riser.However this winter just go for that extra sleep.Try to get sleep for at least 7-8 hrs. Make sure you get an uninterrupted sleep.

    Research has shown that 7-8 hours of sleep makes you healthy.Get plenty of rest which will make sure that your body is now ready to face whatever comes your way.

  3. Move your body : Exercise and keep yourself healthy. If you feel it is too cold outside to walk, opt for indoor activities. You can start with Yoga.Do Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) for 10 minutes which will keep you active through out the day.

The components of your immune system are also better circulated, which means your immune system has a better chance of finding an illness before it spreads.   4. Maintain hygiene and prevent sickness at the source : Encourage frequent hand wash. Ask people coming from outside to wash their hands properly with soap.A better hand washing is the first line of defense against the flu.If soap is not available when outside, use a hand sanitizer.

    Also, one should wash the hands properly for about 20 seconds for properly eliminating the germs. It is suggested that washing hands for 10 seconds, eliminates 90% of the germs.The remaining bacteria will grow and can double in number in less than 20 minutes. It will take only 80 minutes for bacteria to be back to the number prior to washing.If you don’t follow a timer, sing a “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to the end twice.
